Week of January 30

It is wonderful to begin a week with praises for our God and our LORD in chapel.  Psalm 8 reminds us: "O LORD,our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! "  It is great to begin with all the students in full health again.  As we model our lives on the love first shown to us let us show that same love to everyone in our classroom and the DCS family and to all we encounter everyday!  Although the schedules change a little this week, we still marvel at God's creation and HIS wonders around us each day.  Have a great week!

Dare to be a Daniel

Today, during our morning devotions, we finished our meditations on Daniel .  We had an opportunity to look back at some of the stories from Daniel 1-6.  Ask about a favorite example of God's faithfulness and blessing despite the circumstances.  We are to look for two constants.  God  shows His care and concern for those faithful to Him and God has power over everything and everyone in this world.  Today we serve the Savior promised so many years ago who took away our sin through His death and resurrection.  Thank the Father for the assurance of His presence each day even in a tough world.  Dare to be a Daniel.  Tell the whole world His salvation, while you live a life of praise and honor to your true King!

Week of January 16

Servants of All  
We are reminded in chapel to be servants of all and to give thanks and praise to our God in all circumstances!  We will be serving the preschoolers by reading to them on Tuesday.  We have a great selection of books to share.  We are excited by a new week, the winter that seems to come and go, and all the expectations of the week.  Our first sticker party is on Friday too!

Students have collected enough stickers for a sticker party! A sticker party will be held on Friday afternoon, January 20.  If your student would like to help prepare a snack or earn a snack to provide to the class for the afternoon, we would be grateful.

       Fourscore and seven years ago our fathers brought forth upon this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.
        Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure.  We are met on a great battlefield of that war.  We have come to dedicate a portion of that field as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live.  It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.
        But, in a larger sense, we cannot dedicate--we cannot consecrate-- we cannot hallow this ground.   The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it far above our poor power to add or detract.  The world will little note nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here.   It is for us, the living rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced.  It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us--that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion; that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain; that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom; and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.

January 13

It is starting to look like a winter wonderland!  Students were excited to see the new snow.  The tiny flakes were amazing as they floated down to land on tongues, coats, and mittens.  What fun to marvel at the changes in the seasons! What a great ending to a full week.  Everyone arrived on Friday! 

We prepared today to read to our preschool friends again on Tuesday.  The students enjoyed sharing books and the gift of reading!  Listed are some of the titles shared.

Week of January 9

We are challenged, as we begin the week, to consider a most amazing book.  While the Guinness Book of World Records entertains, surprises, astounds, or frightens,  God's word remains as true and real today for Dearborn Christian School as it has throughout history! God is good and He calls His people to show His love to others.  Everyone attending chapel was challenged to think of a specific person and to think of specific ways to show the love of God to in this week.  How can we be a blessing  today and every day?  Hoping and praying for health and strength to return to all students through this week!

January 6

What a blessing to see everyone back to full health again! 
As we begin anew, in our morning devotions, we continue studying the book of Daniel and how he responded to his duties and responsibilities.  He gave credit to the Lord for everything and worked at his tasks in ways that showed his trust in the Lord.  He was rewarded for his faithfulness to God and known for his truthfulness too.  As the year continues may we too be like Daniel in our faith and working diligently at all our tasks! We will continue to discuss the first colonies and the freedoms they established for us today.  Simple machines are all around us.  Jesus is the Lamb of God.  Let us tell you more....Just ask!

January 2012

Happy New Year!
Reflection...It is a joy to look back and remember the good times, memories,  discussions, and to celebrate Christmas with family and friends.  It good to be back together with the explorers of grades three and four!   While our memories span a gap of but a few weeks we too have had great discussions again about our government and its role in citizens' lives as we prepare to learn the document about the Rights of Americans.  Those fundamental rights become so vivid when discussing the early colonies and early citizens.  We are so grateful to have the right to worship freely in this country and in our school. At Dearborn Christian School we study a world created by our God to cause us to ponder, to wonder, and to be in awe.  What a privilege!
